Beyond Diet Culture | Meet Becca Kint of Inner Sunlight Co.
When Becca told me her business name is Inner Sunlight Co., it immediately made sense. Becca came in exuding sunshine. She’s bubbly and positive, with a depth that comes from her own lived experience. Her warmth holds room for the pain and complexity of being human, too.
That combination makes her approach feel so supportive and encouraging. Through her work, Becca helps women repair their relationships with their bodies, food, and movement, and unlearn the messages that tell us we need to be smaller or different than we are.
She supports women in releasing the weight of those expectations so they can fully LIVE the lives they have and fully BE who they are. There’s something powerful about being encouraged to care for yourself from that place.
We’re grateful to have Becca’s uplifting energy in the Collective! Read her Q+A below to get to know Becca and her work.
“unraveling of the non-supportive societal conditions surrounding women's bodies, body shaming, weight shaming, and the beauty & fitness industry as a whole”
What is the work you feel most called to offer right now, and what drew you to it?
Coaching and connecting with people either 1:1 or in group gatherings to repair our relationships with our bodies, food, and movement.
Without a doubt, my own pain to purpose story drew me to this work. Over the last 4 years, I have dove into deep inner work to rewrite my own relationship with myself in these ways and more, and I just know the world needs more of this. Specifically, more unraveling of the non-supportive societal conditions surrounding women's bodies, body shaming, weight shaming, and the beauty & fitness industry as a whole.
Who do you feel most aligned to support, and what are they currently navigating or seeking?
Women of all ages are welcomed and encouraged to explore this work, but it seems the 30-50 age range are who I'm impacting the most and connecting with currently. This is a woman who is aware of her negative self-talk and wants to finally improve her self-perception and stop hating herself first thing in the morning. A woman who wants to care for herself and is seeking a way off the diet cycle. Or, simply a woman who wants to improve and repair her mindset around her body, food, and/or movement.
How do you support people through that? What does your work actually look or feel like in practice?
I invite my clients to 1:1, group gatherings, or both. In 1:1s we can go deeper and individualize their journey, while in groups we get to witness firsthand that we aren't alone and can heal with others, both are so incredibly powerful!
We work through The Wellness Shift Framework or focus on what the individual brings to the session to focus on and work through. Together we will work on becoming super aware of the thought pattern wanting to be shifted. Together, we will become super aware of the thought pattern desired to be shifted. We will work on releasing that thought or belief using a variety of methods, then reconnecting to her body using somatic modalities. She will redefine in her own words how she wants to move forward and begin stepping into her rebirth by practicing micro actions toward her desired way of being.
Certainly someone can do this on their own, but I've experienced such empowerment when women lean on each other, it's absolutely beautiful and soul-shifting!
What shifts or transformations have you witnessed in the people you work with?
I've witnessed women coming into my space self-conscious and leave empowered with more love and appreciation for their body and their essence as a whole.
Women come in feeling overwhelmed and confused by the contradicting wellness noise and leave our work together feeling more empowered and educated in their own unique wellness journey with more clarity on how they want to care for themselves on their own terms.
“This shift will not always be rainbows and butterflies, but it also doesn't have to be that serious either.”
What makes your approach or perspective unique?
My approach feels like a sunny, cozy morning, with a hot beverage, that may or may not be spiked, ha! Having been where my clients are when they first come to me allows me to offer a personal perspective on what they may be going through. I might not be experiencing the exact same things, but I can speak from experience as someone who has walked that path and can now turn around with my hand out to offer a new way.
The work we do together centers on you, the client. I am both a leader and a work in progress. I don't tell people I have all of the answers, most of the time we already have all the answers within us, and a helpful nudge from me can give you the courage to follow what you truly desire already!
I have the skill to carve out the silver linings and maintain an uplifting energy while also being able to hold space for all of the deeper and heavier parts of a healing journey. I'd love for you to love every version of yourself through this ongoing journey. This shift will not always be rainbows and butterflies, but it also doesn't have to be that serious either. I continue to grow and learn personally and professionally, and I will always fold these new experiences into the work I bring to my clients.
What is something you wish more people understood or felt more open to when it comes to this kind of work?
This work actively challenges the current fitness and beauty industry messages we hear constantly. There is always a new body type that is trending, there is always a new diet fad dressed in different clothes, and there is always going to be a marketing message that something is wrong with you and you need to fix it using whatever supplement and cream they are selling.
Although I am seeing more weight neutral approaches to wellness, the work we do here goes against the mainstream grain. At times it feels like an uphill battle, but if you focus inward and concentrate on what YOU truly want and need, learn how to protect yourself from the surrounding chatter, and shift your inner thoughts, you will feel secure in yourself and your own personalized wellness journey. It's SO worth it!
What’s a small ritual or practice you’ve been loving lately?
A midday check in with myself - usually this looks like a short breathwork, journaling out some ideas or inner thoughts, or a re-group for the rest of my day or week ahead. I also like to make sure I get outside each day. I can always get lost in the smallest details in nature, it’s my whimsy hit for the day. Sometimes it's only 30-60 seconds and sometimes it's 30 minutes. Taking a moment to slow down and tune inward fuels my soul.
Where can people connect with you or step into your world right now?
My messages via Facebook or Instagram are always open so please don't hesitate to send me a message & my website is www.innersunlightco.com for more information.
